SEC time

I’m sure all 12 of you that read this blog are anxiously awaiting my take on A&M’s move to the SEC right?

Honestly, I never really cared about ‘the big burnt orange shadow’ that the University of Texas supposedly cast over us. I just love the Aggies and I know the Longhorns love their school too. We are rivals and have been for over 100 years. Aggies think Longhorns are a bunch of silver-spooned arrogant so and so’s and they think Aggies are a bunch of dumb, redneck hicks. Neither is true. Texas is so lucky to have several amazing universities but we were NEVER going to be able completely agree on anything, except that we didn’t care for each other’s sports teams. I blame ESPN and their completely bone-headed idea to put all of their cash with ONE school and think that no one was going to call foul. The Big 12 members were already giving each other the side-eye for the last 5 years and that network just blew the whole thing up.

We won’t know for 10 years if this is a good move for the Ags. We’re going to get our head handed to us in football for the next few years until we figure out the lay of the land (and from what I can tell, the land is big, fast and hits hard) but we are a football program on the rise and hopefully we continue to improve. I’m stuck rooting for the Aggies (happily) and I don’t care what conference they play in.

I am going to miss the annual Thanksgiving game with Texas if it goes away as the the UT athletic director has hinted. BUT this quote from A&M Chancellor John Sharp sure did make me smile and gave me a bit of hope. As always, gig em Ags!

“We want to make it absolutely clear that we will play that game any time anywhere,” Sharp told the Statesman. “If that game dies, it will not be on us. That game is bigger than Texas and bigger than A&M. That game belongs to the people of Texas, and if it goes away, it’s not going to be on our watch.”Asked whimsically if the Aggies would agree to play the Longhorns in Austin every year, Sharp said, “I don’t know about that. But it worked out pretty good last year.”
